Texas Fireworks Stand Robber Shot in Face With His Own Gun

Written by on July 5, 2019

Police say a guy who allegedly tried to hold up a fireworks stand in Texas was about to count up his would-be haul when an employee, using the suspect’s own gun, shot him.

KTRK reported Thursday that the 19-year-old individual had attempted an armed robbery of a fireworks stand in north Harris County. Initially, the suspect demanded money from the stand, which an employee grabbed in cash form and placed on the counter.

When the suspect made a move toward grabbing the cash, he also placed his gun on the counter. This decision, per authorities, allowed for an employee to grab the gun in question and shoot the suspect “in the face.”

The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, with his identity not having been revealed in reports on the incident thus far. During a live update late Thursday, a Harris County Sheriff’s Office rep described the gun as a “revolver type” and told reporters the investigation was ongoing.

In related Texas gun news, Harris County officials earlier this week held a press conference on the topic of “celebratory gunfire” ahead of the holiday festivities. They even offered a cash reward of up to $5,000 for tips on celebrity gunfirers that result in identification and/or charges.

And in additional news of the fireworks variety, downtown Miami had a fireworks show interrupted thanks to a suspicious package investigation that ultimately ended with authorities determining said package to be a harmless suitcase.
