The-Dream Shares New Album ‘SXTP4’

The legendary songwriter and producer The-Dream has finally dropped SXTP4.
The project is his seventh solo studio album, and the fourth installment to his Sextape series, following Ménage à Trois: Sextape Vol. 1, 2, 3. The album also boasts only one listed feature from Jhené Aiko as well.
Complex talked to The-Dream via FaceTime on Thursday, and we asked about why he felt like now was the right time to drop this album.
“The fans and the time of what we’re going through made it possible,” he says. “I had Sextape 4 and 5 ready to go out the door, and I was about to work on Sextape 6 and I started school at SCAD [Savannah College of Art and Design] in January, so I’ve kinda been, like, in school every day on campus working.”
He went on to say that he didn’t feel any pressure to drop it, and that as COVID-19 began having an impact on everyone’s lives he received an outpouring of love from fans to release it so it felt like now was the right time.
While preparing for the release of this album, The-Dream has also been catering to his fans in several other ways as well, including playing a previously unreleased version of JAY-Z and Justin Timberlake’s song “Holy Grail”—which he co-wrote and produced— during his memorable IG Live battle with legendary producer Sean Garrett last month, and working on Jay Electronica’s most recent project A Written Testimony.
The-Dream also jokingly said that there’s never a bad time to put out a solo project, and that if he wanted to he could drop something new every day for the next four weeks. You can listen to SXTP4 below.
