The First ‘Cats’ Trailer Has Arrived and Viewers Have Jokes
Written by SOURCE on July 19, 2019
The first trailer for Cats arrived a little sooner than expected.
Originally scheduled to drop Friday, the two-and-a-half minute preview provides a closer look at the film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic Broadway musical. The movie was directed by Academy Award winner Tom Hooper and features an ensemble cast that includes Idris Elba, Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Jennier Hudson, Rebel Wilson, Taylor Swift, Jason Derulo, and James Corden. Huge names, no doubt, but even a film with so much star power isn’t immune to online roasting.
Immediately after the trailer dropped, people flocked to social media to share their first reactions, many of which were of the mocking variety. Though some took jabs at the songs and vocals, most of the criticism was directed at the visual effects—specifically the motion capture technique that transformed the actors into slightly creepy singing-dancing felines.
You can check out some of the best Twitter reactions below. Cats is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters Dec. 20.
