The San Francisco 49ers Are Reportedly ‘Closing Hard’ on Tom Brady

Ahead of NFL free agency, there’s renewed talk that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady could be heading to the San Francisco 49ers. Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports said as much during a recent interview with Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio, indicating that the 49ers have been “closing hard on the outside” on Brady.
Curran said that the interest in getting Brady is very much “real.” Additionally, he said that Jimmy Garoppolo could be headed back to the Patriots to replace Brady as a result.
It’s worth noting, however, that 49ers tight end George Kittle posted a photo of Garoppolo that could imply he’s not headed back to New England. “Lets run it back 10,” he wrote. Garoppolo is currently under contract with the 49ers through 2022.
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Jeff Darlington recently said that there’s still plenty of other teams in the mix, too. “I have spoken to executives with eight different teams that are at the very least monitoring Tom Brady’s free agency,” Darlington explained. “They are going down this list having internal discussions right now saying, ‘Is this the right fit for our organization?'” He said that Brady’s interest in these eight teams is unclear, but “four of those teams, I believe, would sign him right now.”
