‘The Simpsons’ Showrunner Shuts Down Rumor That the Series Is Coming to an End

Written by on November 29, 2019

The Simpsons showrunner Al Jean would like to make it clear that the series isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. On Thursday, Jean addressed a recent rumor that was going around about the show “coming to an end.”

The belief that the end was near for The Simpsons started when the show’s composer Danny Elfman appeared on the Big Reviewski podcast, and shared that he had heard that the series was coming to a close. “Well, from what I’ve heard, it is coming to an end,” Elfman said. “So, that argument will also come to an end. […] I don’t know for a fact, but I’ve heard that it will be in its last year.”

Even though Elfman stressed that he didn’t “know for a fact” about the show’s future, and was basing his statement on something he had heard, people still assumed that someone who is presumably so closely connected to the show would be privy to this type of information.

Back in February, Fox announced that The Simpsons were being renewed for Seasons 31 and 32, despite the increasing costs that come with producing the series. If you were wondering, The Simpsons is the longest-running primetime scripted show in television history. The future of the show from here on out will be up to Disney who owns the show following the merger with Fox.
