The Weeknd made his return to his Apple Music 1 show, Memento Mori for the 18th episode on Monday—and the singer had a special announcement for his fans.
He revealed that his upcoming album “is complete” and that he’s now just waiting on a few key pieces.
“Only thing missing is a couple characters that are key to the narrative. Some people that are near and dear to me, some people that inspired my life as a child, and some that inspire me now. More to come in the following months,” Abel Tesfaye said.
He also promised “some exciting features” will arrive this fall prior to the release of the album.
He also explained his brief hiatus from Memento Mori, telling fans, “I felt like I let a lot of you down by not continuing the weekly episodes I promised, but a lot has been going down, a lot of moving pieces. I’ve been settling in a new home, been shooting videos, been working on pre-productions for another world, working on music for the pre-productions for the other world, taking time to myself so I don’t completely lose my mind.”
Back in August, he teased new music in his The Dawn is Coming preview. “Fuck it … IT STARTS TONIGHT,” he tweeted in early August. Fans pointed out that Tesfaye had previously shared the clip’s title at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, though we didn’t know at the time. During the 1:42 minute-long visual, The Weeknd vocalizes in the background as the camera travels across the earth and sky to show the sun rising.
The Weeknd dropped his fourth studio album After Hours back in March of 2020.
