The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” Knocks Roddy Ricch Out of No. 1 Spot on Billboard Hot 100

Written by on March 30, 2020

The Weeknd’s single “Blinding Lights” has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, pushing Roddy Ricch’s track “The Box” out of the top spot.

“Blinding Lights” appeared on the Weeknd’s newest album After Hours, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week. The album had the biggest opening week of 2020 with 444,000 equivalent album units, eclipsing BTS’ Map of the Soul: 7, which garnered 422,000 units in early March.

While the original version of After Hours includes no features, it does boast production from Metro Boomin on four songs: “Heartless,” “Escape from LA,” “Faith,” and “Until I Bleed Out.”

The deluxe edition is a different story, featuring remixes and guest appearances from Lil Uzi Vert and Chromatics. It also includes the bonus songs “Nothing Compares,” “Missing You,” and “Final Lullaby,” which Abel Tesfaye dropped on Sunday.

TMZ recently revealed that there was a chance his album wouldn’t have released on its intended date. Music executives wanted the singer to delay the album’s arrival since it was set to drop during the coronavirus pandemic. However, the Weeknd took a chance and shared After Hours anyway. It was clearly the right move.
