With the world seemingly coming to an end, one of the few things people have to look forward to is the possibility of a new Kendrick Lamar album. During an interview with Neet Tokyo, Thundercat revealed that he reconnected with K. Dot for the rapper’s upcoming project.
“I think I worked on the new [album] a little bit too,” Thundercat said at the clip’s 15-second mark when asked his contributions to Kendrick’s discography.
Thundercat has received credits on all three of Kendrick Lamar’s major-label albums. They even won Grammy together for To Pimp a Butterfly‘s “These Walls.” Although his production style can be considered one of the driving forces behind these projects, Thundercat tells Neet Tokyo that Lamar is actually one of his creative inspirations.
“Kendrick is—and I think will be—a beacon of what it means to be one of the more creative artists of our generation,” Thundercat continues. “Him, as an artist, he inspired me a lot. I say this every now and then but I wish I could spend more time around him creating. … When I was working with Kendrick, I was excited. … Some of my favorite moments recording were spent with Kendrick.”
Like Kendrick, Thundercat is also gearing up to release music. Yet, his project it a bit more tangible than the rumors and energy surrounding K. Dot. Thundercat’s upcoming album, It Is What It Is, is set to release on April 3 and will feature his latest single “Dragonball Durag.”
