Timbaland Confesses He Fell in Love With an Underaged Aaliyah in Resurfaced Video

One of the most unsettling topics addressed in Surviving R. Kelly is the singer’s alleged sexual relationship with an underaged Aaliyah. But now, as we arrived at the conclusion of the six-part docuseries, audiences are condemning another industry figure who has expressed disturbing feelings toward the late Princess of R&B.
In a 2011 episode of E! True Hollywood Story, Timbaland admitted he was sexually attracted to Aaliyah when they first met. The problem is that they were introduced during the creation of Aaliyah’s sophomore studio album One in a Million, which she began recording at the age of 16. Timbaland was 23.
“When I first met Aaliyah—it’s time for the world to hear this, I’m gonna give a little secret—I was in love with her,” Timbaland said in the resurfaced video. “I said, ‘She [is] just a baby, I’m old. I’m just gonna be her brother. Oh man, I was fightin’, I was fightin’ a lot—a big war. But I loved Aaliyah.”
Timbaland, who continued to work with Aaliyah throughout her career, also admitted to marrying his wife, Monique Idlett, because she resembled Aaliyah.
“When I first met my wife, I knew I was going to marry her because she looked like Aaliyah,” he said.
