Tom Brady has acquired an ownership stake in reigning WNBA champions the Las Vegas Aces.
The announcement from Aces and Raiders owner Mark Davis comes a week after Brady shut down rumors of another comeback during his Autograph “unofficial retirement” party in Tampa. According to Tampa Bay Times reporter Rick Stroud, the 45-year-old told attendees that his children have seen enough of his NFL games, and it was time for him to watch their games.
Brady solidified the post-retirement chapter of his life last year when he inked a reported 10-year, $375 million deal to become the lead NFL analyst for Fox Sports. The seven-time Super Bowl champion revealed during his February appearance on FS1’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd that he will take a year off before starting the analyst gig.
It looks like ownership is also part of Brady’s future.
“I am very excited to be part of the Las Vegas Aces organization,” Brady said in a statement. “My love for women’s sports began at a young age when I would tag along to all my older sisters’ games—they were by far the best athletes in our house! We celebrated their accomplishments together as a family, and they remain a great inspiration to me.”
He continued, “I have always been a huge fan of women’s sports, and I admire the work that the Aces’ players, staff, and the WNBA continue to do to grow the sport and empower future generations of athletes. To be able to contribute in any way to that mission as a member of the Aces organization is an incredible honor.”
Aces stars A’ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum weighed in on Brady becoming a part of the team’s ownership group.
As for his personal life, Brady’s ex-wife Gisele Bündchen rather emphatically shot down rumors that she’s dating one of his friends, Jeffrey Soffer, in a new interview with Vanity Fair.
“I have zero relationship with him in any way,” Bündchen said. “He’s Tom’s friend, not my friend. … I wouldn’t be with his friend. I wouldn’t be with this guy.”
