Toronto’s MDRA Manifests Her Dreams on New Single “Forbes”

MDRA is practicing the law of attraction and sounding good while doing it on her new single, “Forbes.”
Showcasing the Toronto artist’s versatility, the track is a lively and dynamic rap banger compared to her last single, “Intuition,” a slow-burning R&B heartbreak jam.
MDRA says she was inspired to write the bars for “Forbes” after hearing the beat from Mississauga producer Slime Baby. “I just knew I had something to say on it. I started spitting my truth and what I envision for myself,” he tells Complex Canada. “I see myself on that ‘30 Under 30’ list and it’s gonna be cool to look back at this record and say I did that. I need the girls in my city and the girls everywhere to know that there’s a platform for us—we just gotta go hard. Being a POC and a woman in general, you gotta go three times as hard just to be heard—and then the extra mile to make a difference.”
MDRA views the track as a manifestation for herself. She says the single acts as her way of letting the world know she’s working on chasing her dreams.
The kinetic music video for the single was directed by mynamefrench. “French obviously yellow taped the video. Since we started working together, we’ve been a crazy duo. I appreciate people that believe in me & is also passionate in their craft,” she says.
She credits Slime Baby and mynamefrench for helping to bring her ideas to life, saying, “That’s why this record was fun and easy to make—Slime Baby and French both helped me execute my vision.”
