Tory Lanez Drops ‘The New Toronto 3’ Mixtape f/ Lil Tjay and Mansa

Written by on April 10, 2020

Tory Lanez is ready to show fans the true extent of his creative range.

On Thursday, the Canadian-bred rapper delivered the third installment of his New Toronto mixtape series—marking his last release under the Interscope banner.

“This has been a huge journey for me and my fans and I apologize that mid way thru this, I had to dumb down my creativity, and not give y’all the 100% of quality in my music that y’all deserved to hear for so long …” he wrote on Instagram. “#NEWTORONTO3 … is a small taste of what’s to come.”

The New Toronto 3 spans 16 tracks, including the previously heard “Who Needs Love” and “Do the Most.” Lanez handles the bulk of the project solo, with Lil Tjay and Mansa serving as the only guest artists.

You can stream New Toronto 3 now on Apple Music and Spotify.

Hours before the release, Lanez hosted another installment of his wildly popular Quarantine Radio show on Instagram. The broadcast came as somewhat of a surprise, as Instagram had just suspended Lanez’s live streaming capabilities for one week. Why? Well, apparently, the shows were a little too wild for the platform.

“Quarantine Radio is not banned,” Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri told the Shade Room. “But you can’t have nudity on Instagram. It’s part of our community guidelines. It’s part of the rules and we can’t make exceptions. And on a couple of those lives yesterday for a few of those accounts, there was nudity, so we had to stop the live. There’s a short period of time when you can’t go live again. We have to stick to the rules, otherwise, why do we have them?”

Lanez made several attempts to get the ban lifted, but had no luck—that is, until he reportedly sent the Instagram team his new EP.

“As y’all know, the CEO of Instagram said, ‘Listen, there’s nothing that can be done. Policy is policy …’” Lanez said. “There was nothing we could do. I swear, no cap, no word of lie: I sent the music to Instagram … They listened to the project, in 24 hours or less, they came back to me and said, ‘Listen, the music is so good, it would be a crime for us not to lift the ban.”
