Singer Traci Braxton, the sister of Toni and Tamar, has died at the age of 50 following a private battle with cancer.
The news of Braxton’s death was shared by TMZ, and family members have since shared memories and messages on social media, calling her a “bright light.”
“It is with the utmost regret that we inform you of the passing of our sister, Traci,” Toni shared to Instagram. “Needless to say, she was a bright light, a wonderful daughter, an amazing sister, a loving mother, wife, grandmother and a respected performer. We will miss her dearly.”
Toni added that Traci, who died on Saturday morning, passed while snow was falling, meaning their “angel is now a snowflake.
“We ask that you respect our privacy as we plan to send her home with love, celebrating her life,” she wrote. “We are family forever.”
The Braxton sister struck a top Billboard hit with her single, “Last Call” which was a fan-favorite. Her second and final album On Earth featured production from industry heavyweights including the talented duo Chris N Teeb.
Traci was “surrounded by family and friends at the time of her passing,” a source told People, as her husband Kevin Surratt confirmed the news to the publication.
“We have come to a time where we must inform the public that after a year of privately undergoing a series of treatment for Esophageal cancer our beloved Traci Braxton has gone on to glory,” he said.
Throughout her career, the Braxton Family Values star also appeared in films like films like Sinners Wanted and Chaaw, as well as stage play There’s a Stranger in My House. She also shared two studio albums, 2014’s Crash & Burn and 2018’s On Earth.
“When I heard the news about my mother being sick first thing she said was I’m going to fight and beat this,” her son, Kevin Surratt Jr., wrote on Instagram. “She fought to the end and today she’s at peace.”
