The Travis Scott and Kid Cudi collab “The Scotts” could overtake The Weeknd‘s “Blinding Lights” and debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 next week.
“The Scotts” is projected to garner over 40 million U.S. streams, draw three million in radio airplay audience, and sell more than 45,000 downloads in its first full week. In that same span, “Blinding Lights” could surpass 100 million in radio reach with 20 million in streams, and 10,000 downloads.
It’s going to take a valiant effort to dethrone “Blinding Lights,” which has spent four nonconsecutive weeks atop the Hot 100 chart, but Trav pulled out all the stops for his latest Cudi-assisted banger. “The Scotts” was debuted as part of La Flame’s “Astronomical” concert event on Fortnite.
“Astronomical” captured the attention of the quarantined masses, pulling in an all-time record for Epic Games of over 12.3 million concurrent players. The event, which was billed as a “one of a kind musical journey,” provided those under self-isolation with the much-needed entertainment that Scott was hoping to provide during these unprecedented times.
“Just being able to get some of my ideas off in a game, and for people to play at the crib,” La Flame said on Big Boy in the Neighborhood. “I’ve been busy getting ready for the show, [but] I loaded by skin up, gave it a run, but I’ve been focused, more so, on the design.”
If “The Scotts” debuts at No. 1, it will be the third time Trav lands atop the Hot 100, joining “Sicko Mode” and “Highest in the Room.” However, it would be the first time Cudi cracks the top spot. The closest he came was in 2009 when “Day ‘N’ Nite” reached No. 3. The Trav and Cudi collab netted 7.45 million streams on Spotify Friday, setting a new record for the best global streaming debut of the year.
