Tsu Surf has pleaded guilty to violating New Jersey’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
On April 28, the battle rapper — born Rahjon Cox — pleaded guilty to two counts of racketeering conspiracy and possessing firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon in federal court and is scheduled for sentencing on September 12. Tsu Surf faces 20 years in prison for the racketeering conspiracy charge and an additional 10 years for weapon possession, with both counts punishable by a fine of up to $250,000.
As part of the plea deal, Tsu Surf must honor the terms if he wants to avoid getting hit with additional RICO charges in the future. He has also agreed to forfeit any property obtained as part of the larger RICO conspiracy.
According to a press release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey, Surf’s confessed to committing crimes from 2015 to 2022. In that time, Tsu Surf reportedly held a leadership position within the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips, shot at a rival gang member in 2017 and was found in possession of two loaded firearms in July 2019.
The “Better Half” rapper was arrested in October 2022 after engaging in a standoff with police at a home in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he barricaded himself at the location with a woman and refused to come out.
After about an hour, Surf peacefully surrendered to law enforcement and crisis negotiators at the scene. The arrest happened after rumors erupted that Tsu Surf was arrested on RICO charges in a raid that saw multiple members of the Rollin’ 60s detained in October.
