Twitter Was Down for One Hour and People Couldn’t Handle It

Twitter experienced an outage for a whole hour on Thursday, and people were understandably not happy about it. As Variety reports, Twitter started to experience issues at around 2:46 p.m. ET, and wasn’t back up until almost an hour later at 3:45 p.m. ET. Arriving so shortly after Instagram users experienced widespread problems, it’s beginning to look like the social media apocalypse.
Instead of immediately explaining the source of the outage, Twitter decided to have a little fun with users with their first tweet back: “Miss us?” In total, around 70,000 users reported issues with Twitter on the outage tracking website Downdetector.com.
At around 4:15 p.m. ET, Twitter’s support account sent out a tweet indicating the outage was caused by “an internal system change, which we’re now fixing,” and acknowledged that not everyone’s feeds are back up-and-running. “Twitter is back up for some people, and we’re working to make sure our service is available to everyone as quickly as possible.” The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Twitter shares fell more than 1 percent as a result.
As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the site experienced the outage at the same time Donald Trump was hosting his “social-media summit.”
