Two Dead in Baltimore Amazon Warehouse Collapse

Written by on November 3, 2018

Two people died during a partial building collapse at a Baltimore Amazon fulfillment center on Friday, according to multiple reports.

The Baltimore Fire Department used thermal imaging equipment to see if anyone else was trapped in the building. The first person, a man, was found on Friday night underneath debris and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Firefighters then recovered a second male body on Saturday morning.

Brandon McBride, an employee who was in the building at the time, spoke with CNN affiliate WBAL about what exactly happened when the building collapsed.

“I was standing inside the building and me and one of the facilities dudes were talking, and I went to the left side of the building and he went to the right, and all of a sudden, we just heard these loud noises. The power shut off. It was just crazy inside,” McBride told WBAL. “It just sounded like bombs were dropping everywhere. The whole side [of the building] was just dropping.”

A storm had swept through the area on Friday night when a 50-foot wall in the building collapsed, according to Baltimore Fire Department spokesman Chief Roman Clark. However, authorities have yet to determine a cause.

“There was stuff falling everywhere, you could see the walls were caving in,” McBride added. “Rain was pouring everywhere; all the packages were soaked. It’s unreal.”
