During an interview with Billboard, Tyga somewhat addressed comments made by Chvrches about him and Chris Brown. It all started after Marshmello collaborated with Brown and Tyga on the track “Light It Up.”

“We are really upset, confused and disappointed by Marshmello’s choice to work with Tyga and Chris Brown,” the band, who previously collaborated with Marshmello on “Here With Me,” wrote on Twitter. “We like and respect Mello as a person but working with people who are predators and abusers enables, excuses and ultimately tacitly endorses that behavior. That is not something we can or will stand behind.”

Brown has had abuse and sexual assault allegations made against him while Tyga has been criticized for his relationship with a then-underage Kylie Jenner. In 2016, a girl, who was 14 years old at the time, said she had an “uncomfortable” conversation with Tyga via IG.

“To clarify, we weren’t picking on Chris Brown for the sake of picking on Chris Brown,” Lauren Mayberry, the vocalist and percussionist for Chvrches, said during a show in Texas. “It was a morally dubious decision that happened but also Chvrches is a band, Chvrches is a business, Chvrches is a brand or whatever that the people can buy into, and it has to be honest and it has to be authentic. We would be really hypocritical if we worked with somebody and didn’t say anything about what they did immediately after that fact.”

“These are the type of people I wish walked in front of a speeding bus full of mental patients,” Brown wrote shortly after Chvrches shared their initial statement. “Keep groveling over you own insecurities and hatred. I’M BLACK AND PROUD. AND I KNOW ITS [sic] HURTS THAT U GUYS ARE STRUGGLING WIT LIFE OR PEACE SO U ARE FORCED TO SEE MY SUCCESS.”

“Well, people who aren’t in the culture of hip-hop or rap only look at it as one way,” Tyga responded when asked by Billboard about it all. “It’s all the same. I think they were more mad that Marshmello put out a new song right after they did one with him. But he’s a producer and a DJ, so he’s putting out new records with people every week. You get what I’m saying? But you don’t hear us complaining. [Our song] was a little different from his genre and probably his fan base, which was cool though. And people like it, you know?”

Tyga recently released his seventh studio album Legendary. The project boasts features from Offset, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Swae Lee, Bazzi, Gunna, Blueface, and J Balvin.
