Video Shows 9-Year-Old White Boy Cracking Whip on Black Family’s Home

Written by on May 17, 2022

A video of a young white boy cracking a whip against a Black family’s front door has been making the rounds on social media.

The incident happened in Forney, Texas, with the Ring alarm footage showing the child repeatedly cracking a whip until Carissa Nash pried open the door and told the kid to get lost. She’s the one who posted the original video online.

“Little boy, you better get your ass up and off my porch before I call the police,” Carissa can be heard saying in the clip, “beating on my door like this! I will call the police. You need to leave. Don’t you ever beat on my [expletive] door like that. Go!” At that point, the boy leaves. He had also allegedly scratched up the Nash’s vehicle.

According to NBC 5, the boy was looking for Carissa and Dezerrea Nash’s 9-year-old daughter. They were both involved in an apparent bullying incident, wherein the boy reportedly thought the Nash’s daughter pushed him in some water after school on May 12.

While the family did end up calling the police, they didn’t file an incident report and instead paid a visit to the boy’s home so they could talk to his parents themselves. However, the boy’s father Bryan Brunson didn’t take kindly to their accusations, and when he opened the door, he was holding a semi-automatic pistol, which discharged as he argued with Dezerrea.

The Nashes also shared video of their conversation, where Dezerrea tries to show Brunson the Ring alarm footage. “I’m coming to have a conversation with you, sir. Your son. I’m going to show you the video,” Dezerrea said, explaining that the boy allegedly used the whip on the Nash’s car and left a “huge scratch.”

However, Brunson told the Nashes to leave, which was followed by the sound of a gun that fired behind him where his daughter was standing. Both the Nashes and Kaufman County Constable Jason Johnson believe that Brunson didn’t mean to fire his weapon. No one was injured.

“He had a child standing behind and when it went off it could have seriously injured that child or taken that child’s life or somebody else’s,” Johnson said.

Brunson was arrested for deadly conduct for reckless discharge of a firearm and has since been released from custody on bail.

“We know the history of the whip,” Dezerrea said, per WFAA. “This is a racial issue. He comes to the door with a whip.” Carissa also called the sound of the whip “terrifying.”

The Nashes said they’re looking into their legal options against Brunson, though they just want to move on. “Hopefully [Brunson] just takes responsibility for it and this whole situation blows over without any further consequences or anyone else getting hurt,” Dezerrea said, per CBS News.
