Video Shows Black Driver Being Blocked by White Residents

Written by on May 14, 2020

A video of an Oklahoma delivery truck driver being blocked in a neighborhood during a stressful confrontation has gone viral after initially being posted on Facebook.

The driver, Travis Miller, and his co-worker were making a delivery to a home in Oklahoma City when a man alleging to be the neighborhood’s homeowners association president blocked Miller’s truck, in a dispute that lasted almost 30 minutes.

The man, David Stewart, wanted to know how Miller had gotten access to the road. Miller later told KOCO-TV that the person who received the package had given him the gate code to enter the neighborhood.

“I asked you one question,” Stewart said.

“And it’s none of your business,” Miller replied. Stewart then told Miller that he was driving on a private street.

“Flagged me down and just began to throw out a barrage of questions. ‘What are you doing here? Why are you in here? Where are you coming from?’” Miller told KOCO-TV. He declined to answer Stewart, and instead chose to sit in his truck and record the incident on Facebook Live.

“I was gripping the steering wheel, and I made sure I kept my seat belt on,” Miller said. “I locked the doors, tried to keep the window up.”

At one point in the video, Miller becomes emotional, in part because he’s also lost three family members in a month. “I knew if I get out this truck, no matter what happened, I would have been in the wrong,” he said. “I always say to myself, ‘I’m going to go home to my wife and my kids.’”

Stewart finally allowed Miller to leave after speaking with the homeowner who received the delivery. Miller told the news station that he was moved by everyone’s support online.
