A small single-engine plane was captured on video crashing onto a highway after clipping a light pole during its ascent following takeoff, 6abc Action News reports.
The plane was headed back to the airport from the Texas Rice Festival when the incident occurred on Saturday morning. The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office said the pilot was not seriously hurt, but was transported to a nearby hospital for precautionary purposes. No other injuries were reported.
According to KPRC, the plane was used as a float, and instead of having the aircraft towed away, the pilot chose to fly back to the airport. Authorities suspect strong winds may have factored into the crash.
The Texas Rice Festival celebrates the rice harvest and was held at Winnie-Stowell Park on the first weekend of October. The plane was part of the event’s parade. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
“Many thanks to our first responders and CSI Towing for their swift response,” the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook post reads.
