Vince Staples Releases New Album ‘Ramona Park Broke My Heart’

Written by on April 8, 2022

Long Beach rapper Vince Staples has shared his new album, Ramona Park Broke My Heart.

Serving as the follow-up to his 2021 self-titled effort, Ramona Park Broke My Heart includes features from Ty Dolla SignLil Baby, and Mustard. The 16-track outing comes after Staples penned a thoughtful message on the project following his cover art reveal last month.

“I am often told the lie that life is what you make it,” he wrote. “For over a decade, most of my work has been an anthology of what I believed to be home. Now I’ve realized that it reaches beyond location.”

He continued, “I have been exploring the utility of home. Security. Comfort. Meaning. The answer. The excuse. To outgrow is to love blindly no longer. ‘Ramona Park Broke My Heart’ is the story of that growth.”

He added that “there’s a direct correlation” between his previous self-titled effort and this album.

“They were kind of created at the same time,” Staples revealed. “I was in a similar state of mind. I’m still working through things and the questions that life poses. This album will make even more sense if you heard the previous one.”

Staples previously dropped two singles to tease the project. The 28-year-old lyricist first shared “Magic” on Valentine’s Day. “I think it’ll put the listener in a good state of mind,” he explained. “The mood of it defines the project.”

He then followed it up with another single titled “Rose Street,” and claimed he was inspired by Will Smith’s Oscar’s slap to drop the music video.

Staples is currently wrapping up his supporting run on Tyler, the Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost Tour.
