Warner Bros. Is Gearing Up for ‘Aquaman 2’

Warner Bros. is already looking to get started on Aquaman 2. According to Deadline, the movie studio is trying to entice director James Wan to return to the series as the CGI-soaked trip to Atlantis is inching up on being DC’s most-successful movie of all time.
Earlier this month, the film became the first DC Comics flick to cross the $1 billion mark at the box office since 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises. It’s $12 million away from passing that film, going from being the highest-grossing film in the DC Extended Universe to being the highest-grossing DC movie full stop.
Aquaman has global cachet that other titles in their canon lack. The overwhelming majority of the Jason Momoa vehicle’s take came from the global box office and Warner Bros is excited to return to that well. In spite of all this success, Wan was reluctant to talk about a sequel when Deadline asked him about it in December.
“I’m superstitious about that,” he told the trade website.
Because of the first movie’s runaway success, Wan is reportedly being offered a startling amount of control over the sequel. According to unnamed sources who spoke with Deadline, Warner Bros. wants Wan to “oversee the development of a second film, including the selection of writers, and then make a decision on whether to direct it when he sees the script.”
