According to the NBA rumor mill, DeMarcus Cousins is looking to return to the floor (and also get on it for the first time with the Warriors) after Christmas.

More specifically, the Mercury News’ Logan Murdock wrote that Cousins had wanted to make his debut for Golden State during their upcoming five-game road-trip (which is set to begin on December 7) but it was determined during a meeting on Friday that he would continue to rest up.

Murdock adds that there have been no setbacks in Cousins’ recovery process, which comes after he tore his Achilles back in January. A source with knowledge of the details behind the mutual agreement said that Cousins’ continued rest will allow him to step up his conditioning so he can return to game action in peak form. His progress is slated to be re-evaluated on Tuesday (tomorrow), though a Warriors player who scrimmaged with him recently said he looks “solid.”

The timetable for Cousins’ return should still give him more than half-a-season to prove he’s an elite player worthy of a massive contract when he hits free agency (again) in the summer of 2019. Cousins had signed a one-year/$5.2 million dollar deal this past summer, with the Warriors being fully aware that he would miss a sizable chunk of the season’s first half.
