Watch Chance the Rapper Perform “Zanies and Fools” and “Handsome” on ‘Saturday Night Live’

Written by on October 27, 2019

Chance the Rapper returned to Saturday Night Live this week to fulfill one of his childhood dreams, as both the host and musical guest. The Chicago rapper spoke about his double-duty experience during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

“It’s crazy. It’s a lot of moving around. It’s a lot of duties and responsibilities. But it’s amazing,” he said. “Honestly, it’s been a dream for me since I was a little kid. My older cousin Chris used to have all this MC Hammer memorabilia … he had all this stuff, and one of them was a VHS recording of MC Hammer hosting and [serving as the] musical guest to SNL, so I always wanted to do that.”

Chance, who made his SNL debut in 2015, took the stage to perform “Zanies and Fools” and “Handsome” off his debut studio album The Big Day.

Chance’s “Zanies and Fools” performance began with a partly-animated video of his daughter singing the song, and included a team of dancers and percussion artists. Unfortunately, Nicki Minaj didn’t show up to deliver her verse

For his performance of “Handsome,” Chance was joined by Megan Thee Stallion. You can check out clips from Chance’s performances above and below.

Chance also began the night by delivering a prideful song about Chicago in the show’s opening monologue, while wearing a Chicago Teachers Union sweater, who are currently on strike.

The rapper is now gearing up for his set at the Miami Beach Pop Festival in mid-November. He will resume The Big Day Tour, which was rescheduled following the birth of his second daughter, on Jan. 15, 2020. The trek will include stops in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Cleveland, and Montreal, with a final stop in Milwaukee. Taylor Bennett and Lil Yachty will serve as special guests.
