Watch Demi Lovato’s Moving Performance of “Anyone” at 2020 Grammy Awards

Written by on January 27, 2020

Demi Lovato took the stage at the 2020 Grammy Awards to debut “Anyone” in what was her first live performance since nearly dying of an overdose in July of 2018. Lovato revealed to Zane Lowe in an interview for Beats 1 that her new song was written and recorded a mere four days before her near-fatal incident.

Listening back to the lyrics during her time at the hospital, Lovato realized that she was crying out for help. “I almost listen back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help,” she said recently. “And you kind of listen back to it and you kind of think, how did nobody listen to this song and think, ‘Let’s help this girl?'”

“I was recording it in a state of mind where I felt I was okay, but clearly I wasn’t,” Lovato added. “I even listen back to it and I’m like, ‘Gosh, I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself.'”

“I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself,” Lovato said about the song. “If I ever come back, I want to sing this song.” On Sunday, Demi finally got her opportunity to perform “Anyone,” and people couldn’t help but be moved by it.
