Watch Kevin Gates Get Emotional Taking the Newer York Spelling Bee Challenge

Everyday Struggle co-host and Beats 1 personality Nadeska Alexis welcomed Kevin Gates to Apple Music headquarters for the latest round of the Newer York Spelling Bee.
Gates, who noted he can speak multiple languages near the top of the interview, was asked to spell a number of words taken from his own lyrics. The segment kicked off with the word “clientele,” which appears in a line from Gates’ 2015 hit “2 Phones.”

Last month, Gates shared the official video for his Invincible Beats-produced I’m Him track “By My Lonely.” The album was released via Atlantic and Bread Winners’ Association back in September, supported by the singles “Facts” and “Push It.”
In a Billboard chat preceding the album’s release, Gates reflected on the meaning behind the title and said he’s “proud” of the progress he’s made in his life.
“I’m watching Kevin Gates grow,” he said in August. “He’s growing. I’m proud of it. He’s starting to not make excuses. He’s starting to hold himself accountable. I’m proud of him. It took a little longer than it took for most people. Women mature faster than men, but I’m proud of him.”
