Watch Nicki Minaj’s New Video for “Megatron”

Earlier this month, Nicki Minaj ended her Twitter hiatus with a cryptic message that simply read “MEGATRON.” This, of course, fueled speculation that new music was around the corner, but no one knew what to expect. That is, until Nicki began teasing the track’s official video, directed by Mike Ho.
The visual—just like the song—goes heavy on the dancehall vibes. We see Nicki partying at a club, dancing in front of a green Lambo—which she later sets on fire—and hitting the sauna with her current boyfriend, Kenneth Petty. The contrast of neon lights and tropical background is reminiscent of her 2014 video for “Anaconda.”
Fans immediately noted that the song’s title nodded to Future’s 2018 track “Transformer,” in which Nicki refers to herself as the ruthless robotic life form:
I’m still the bad guy, I am a Decepticon
Some call me Nicki but some call me Megatron
I’m stoppin’ bags and I don’t need a red octagon.
Nicki also previewed “Megatron” during the European leg of her Nicki WRLD Tour with Juice WRLD.
Could “Megatron” be a sneak peek of Nicki’s fifth studio album? It definitely seems that way.
Last week, it was revealed Nicki wouldn’t appear on Chris Brown’s INDIGOAT Tour after all. And no, it wasn’t because she was dropped. Insiders told TMZ the rapper had never signed on to the summer trek because she was busy working in the studio—presumably on Queen’s follow-up.
You can listen to “Megatron” now on all major streaming services and watch the video above.
Nicki’s Queen Radio show will return to Beats 1 later today.
