Taylor Swift returned to Studio 8H this weekend for her first Saturday Night Live appearance in nearly two years.
The 29-year-old made her SNL debut back in January 2009 and was tapped to host the sketch comedy show just 10 months later. Swift had teased this week’s SNL performance during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, confirming she would deliver something a little different and unexpected.
“Yeah, I’m fine with saying … well, you know, we have to be a little cryptic, just because it’s fun,” she said when asked about which songs she would perform. “I’ll probably do ‘Lover’ but in a way I haven’t performed it before. And then I’m going to do a song that I have never performed at all live.”
Swift didn’t disappoint. The singer-songwriter performed a tender piano rendition of “Lover” as well as “False God,” a standout track from her newly released seventh studio album Lover.
You can watch the performances in the videos above and below.
