Nearly two decades after the end of the original Matrix trilogy, fans of the Wachowskis-crafted universe have been understandably hyped about the impending arrival of a new franchise entry, albeit one without Laurence Fishburne.
The Matrix Resurrections, directed by Lana Wachowski, sees original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss returning to their iconic roles as Neo and Trinity alongside a team of newcomers including recent Candyman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Speculation among fans regarding the identity of the latter’s character has been rampant since the actor was first announced to have joined the cast, with the anticipated sequel’s newly released trailer giving us the closest look yet.
But first, we’re made witnesses to a therapy-style conversation between Reeves’ Neo and Neil Patrick Harris’ character. Reeves, it’s revealed, is struggling to come to terms with “dreams that weren’t just dreams.” At one point, Reeves asks Harris’ character if he’s “crazy,” prompting a playful rebuke.
