HBO has released the first full-length trailer for its upcoming superhero series, Watchmen.
Based on the DC graphic novel of the same name, the small-screen adaptation comes courtesy of Damon Lindelof, who has promised to stay true to the original source by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. But Lindelof did say, however, there will be a few “remixes” in store.
“We have no desire to ‘adapt’ the twelve issues Mr. Moore and Mr. Gibbons created thirty years ago,” the executive producer wrote in a message posted on Instagram. “Those issues are sacred ground and they will not be retread nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted, They will, however, be remixed.”
Watchmen is set in an alternative reality in which a group of vigilantes are treated as outlaws.
Per the show’s synopsis: “This drama series embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name while attempting to break new ground of its own.”
Watchmen, set to premiere this October. will star Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, and Jean Smart. You can check out the preview above.
