Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to Tony Scott’s 1986 action classic, will indeed be hitting theaters this May after being met with a number of well-publicized delays. On Tuesday, Paramount further teased the Joseph Kosinski-directed entry’s long-awaited arrival with a new trailer.

The film sees original star Tom Cruise returning as Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a test pilot who encounters the son of his late friend Nick “Goose” Bradshaw when training a group of graduates. Cruise is also credited as a producer on Maverick and is joined in that capacity by Jerry Bruckheimer, Christopher McQuarrie, and David Ellison.

Also starring in the sequel—which was originally slated for a summer 2019 release—are Miles Teller (as Goose’s son “Rooster”), Jon Hamm, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, and more. Val Kilmer, who played Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the original Top Gun, has also been confirmed to have reprised his role for Kosinski’s film. In fact, the latest trailer gives us a quick glimpse at how Iceman factors into this new story.

“That was a huge, huge get—having Val come back to play Iceman,” the director recently said in an interview with Total Film. The reunion of Kilmer and Cruise’s characters, Kosinski added, ultimately became one of his “favorite parts” of the Maverick journey.
