Unless you intentionally avoid things which will almost certainly bring you joy, then you’re fully aware of the impending arrival of a new Martin Scorsese feature, this time benefiting from a unique release approach that will include a theatrical drop and a Netflix premiere within weeks of each other.
Now, The Irishman—hitting select theaters Nov. 1 and Netflix accounts Nov. 27—has a proper trailer to quell fans no doubt starving for the cinematic re-teaming of Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci. Up top, catch that trailer, which first premiered during the Tonight Show on Wednesday.
While on the show, De Niro explained what went into de-aging him for the film.
As host Jimmy Fallon explained a few hours before sharing the trailer with the world alongside De Niro, Irishman—based on Charles Brandt’s memoir I Heard You Paint Houses—boasts “everything you want in a Scorsese film.” Fallon, who got an early look at the film Wednesday, also praised the cast’s chemistry and declared De Niro’s performance a “tour de force.”
The three mains (De Niro, Pacino, and Pesci) are joined by Bobby Cannavale, Harvey Keitel, Action Bronson, Anna Paquin, Ray Romano, Jim Norton, Kathrine Narducci, and more. Steven Zaillian, known for his previous credits on Mission: Impossible and Gangs of New York, handled the script.
Speaking on the de-aging VFX tech used in the film, Scorsese revealed to Empire earlier this month that he and De Niro set up a test run of the tech back in August 2015 in which a classic Goodfellas sequence was revisited. Principal photography on The Irishman, meanwhile, didn’t start until September 2017.
