Whoopi Goldberg Shuts Down Meghan McCain Over Impeachment Convo: ‘Please Stop Talking’

Written by on December 16, 2019

Sparks flew on The View when co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Meghan McCain discussed President Donald Trump’s impeachment Monday.

“You had so many senators that voted to not only impeach but also convict President Clinton for, yes, perjuring himself,” co-host Sunny Hostin began, touching on former President Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial.

“Many of those same people are still in the Senate,” she continued. “I cannot believe they would vote to impeach and convict a sitting president for perjuring himself and they would not vote to convict a president and remove a president, who clearly wanted to use a foreign government for his own personal benefit to impede our very democracy,” she said to applause. “That is the height of hypocrisy for this Republican-led Senate. I don’t understand that.”

McCain, The View‘s conservative voice, said that her “job here is not to litigate the ethics of it. I’m an ABC political analyst along with being a View co-host, my job is to analyze the politics of it. And I’m telling you the politics…”

Hostin cut her off, saying that she wasn’t talking about her, but the senators. McCain, daughter of the late Sen. John McCain, didn’t take kindly to being interrupted. “Just let me finish. I let you talk. Just let me finish,” she pleaded. When Hostin and McCain started to talk over one another, Goldberg attempted to gain control of the conversation.

When McCain asked if people “wanted to hear a conservative perspective on the show ever,” Goldberg shut her down. “Girl, please stop talking,” a frustrated Goldberg said. “Please stop talking right now.”

“No problem. I won’t talk for the rest of the show. No problem.” a flustered McCain responded. “I’m OK with that, if you’re going to behave like this,” Goldberg told McCain.

McCain took to Twitter after the show to say that she “won’t be quiet.”

“Dems and Rs alike need to confront the ugly truth: both parties are failing to be impartial jurors,” McCain tweeted Monday. “I won’t be quiet, even if the reality reflects poorly on the entire political establishment. I have a responsibility to speak for the 50% that feels media doesn’t represent them.”

“Pointing out things that are true is part of my job even if it angers people and even if it’s politically inconvenient,” she continued.

People on Twitter, however, agreed with Whoopi:
