A lot of people speak highly of how marijuana helped their life. But during the latest episode of Red Table Talk, Willow Smith explained how quitting weed had a positive impact on her life.
The 19-year-old, mother Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Jada’s 66-year-old mother, Adrienne Banfield-Jones, had an open and candid conversation about her marijuana use. The conversation led Willow to explain that she stopped smoking weed three months ago. Since then, she’s been putting her energy into learning new hobbies.
“I know this sounds cheesy, but around the time I stopped smoking, I started doing a lot of yoga and I just excelled because I was putting all of my energy into that,” she said. “I wasn’t doing anything else and I was like, ‘Wow, what if I was doing this with everything?’ And then it really made me think, ‘What have I been missing? What have I been not putting my all into or not putting all of my brainpower into?’”
Willow went on to describe how a lot of the people she thought where her friends were actually associates.
“When I stopped smoking it was a really big eye-opener,” she continued. “There are so many people that I called friends in my life who just [drifted away]. It really made me think, like, ‘This is really interesting.’”
Willow has been open about her struggles with mental health. She admitted that she initially started using marijuana to combat these feelings, but it grew into a habit that she would indulge out of boredom. Now that people are self-isolating, Willow, Jada, and Banfield-Jones don’t want people to fall into a cycle of substance abuse because they are alone.
“A routine was really important,” Banfield-Jones, who is 29 years clean from a heroin addiction, explains. “I had to have a plan for my day.”
