Windhorst: Nets ‘Gaining Confidence’ on Signing Kevin Durant

Written by on June 22, 2019

Appearing on ESPN’s The Jump, NBA insider Brian Windhorst indicated that the Brooklyn Nets are “gaining confidence” that they’ll sign Kevin Durant. He began by discussing the rumors that he’ll resign with Golden State before considering the potential of him moving to a new team. Initial reports pointed towards the New York Knicks offering Durant a deal, but now Windhorst believes the Nets are prepared to make their own offer.

“The Nets are gaining confidence that they can pull this off,” Windhorst said. “They’re continuing to make moves, they’ve made three moves in the last week… They’re right there for second slot.” He added that he’s “not ruling out the Knicks at all,” but the Nets are starting to seem more likely. KD’s former teammate Kendrick Perkins added that he thinks the Nets are the front-runners right now, to which Windhorst added, “He is not the only person involved with the NBA that has told me that.”

Windhorst previously spoke about Durant trade rumors earlier this week, in which he said that it sounded as though the Warriors were willing to offer Durant an impressive five-year contract in hopes of keeping him on board.

“One of the things that is being discussed right now is that the Golden State Warriors would offer Kevin Durant a five-year contract, $57 million extra than he could get signing elsewhere, let him rehab and then work with him to be traded,” he said. “Potentially to New York, potentially to somewhere else. It would be their way to sort of take care of him monetarily after what he just went through and also protect the franchise and get some assets.”
