Woman Arrested After Threatening to Blow Up Swedish Embassy in Support of ASAP Rocky

Written by on July 27, 2019

As ASAP Rocky remains Swedish custody, the calls for his release have become increasingly louder and, in the case of one woman, much more violent.

According to a NBC 4 Washington, 26-year-old Rebecca Kanter was arrested on Tuesday after she allegedly threatened to “blow up” the Swedish Embassy in D.C. during an apparent protest of the rapper’s incarceration. Secret Service Officer William Ayers stated Kanter first appeared at the Swedish complex on Monday when she “threw liquid from a glass Coca Cola bottle at the doorway […] and yelled out ‘I’m going to blow this motherfucker up.'” She reportedly left the premises before law enforcement could intervene, and went on to write about her efforts on social media.

“[…] Why isn’t it breaking news that I defiled the House of Sweden last night, that I vandalized the Wold Bank, that I vandalized the IMF,” she wrote online, according to a criminal complaint penned by Ayers. “[…] Why aren’t I getting press for ASAP?”

So, Kanter returned to the scene the following day. During the second time around, she allegedly began shouting profanities at embassy personnel and a student tour group, as well as “making statements” about Rocky. Kanter was also accused of damaging property within the building, including a teepee display and a coffee table.

Embassy staff demanded Kanter to leave the premises; however, the woman refused and reportedly said, “Call the police, I am not leaving.”

She was arrested by secret service, and booked on charges of willfully injuring and damaging property of a foreign government and refusing to depart a foreign embassy. According to NBC 4, she has been released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 31.

Rocky—legal name Rakim Mayers—was arrested by Swedish authorities on July 2 for alleged assault. The Harlem rapper was filmed in a physical altercation in the streets of Stockholm at the end of June; however, he and his legal team insist it was an act of self-defense. Rocky was formally charged with assault on Thursday and is scheduled to stand trial next week.
