A California woman has been charged with kidnapping after she allegedly impersonated a nurse and tried to steal a newborn baby last week.
According to a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Jesenea Miron, 23, pretended to be a newly hired nurse when she showed up at the Riverside University Health System – Medical Center on Thursday morning. Aside from being able to visit the unit where the newborn infants were being held, Miron also entered a patient’s room and identified herself as a nurse before attempting to swipe their baby.
Miron managed to flee the hospital after she was confronted by staff. However, investigators from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station were able to figure out her identity, as well as locate her residence. She was arrested later that night and “additional items of evidentiary value” were seized from her home.
Miron is scheduled to appear in court on July 26. She’s being held on $1 million bail.
Riverside University Health System CEO Jennifer Cruikshank said the Sheriff’s Office are working with personnel to determine how Miron not only gained access to the hospital room but also posed as a nurse in the presence of a patient, CNN reports. Cruikshank also mentioned that additional deputies are now stationed on the hospital’s campus and security protocol has since been “reviewed and reinforced.”
