She said that 20 minutes later she was told by Oven And Tap management that she could only keep 20 percent of the tip, and that she would have to split it with the rest of the staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo turn right back around and find out that I wasn\u2019t keeping it was kind of disheartening because we don\u2019t tip share in any way,\u201d Brandt said. The head of the large party\u2013a man named\u00a0Grant Wise who had messaged the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.complex.com\/tag\/food\" rel=\"noopener\">restaurant<\/a> ahead of time to ask about their tipping policy\u2013learned of the snafu after he had messaged Brandt and her co-worker. He then asked the restaurant to return the gratuity to their servers in full.<\/p>\n<section class=\"suitcase-ad\" \/>\n<p>The restaurant agreed to return the money, but a few days later fired\u00a0Brandt over the phone.\u00a0\u201cIt was devastating, I borrowed a significant amount for student loans,\u201d Brandt said in an interview with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fox59.com\/news\/national-world\/arkansas-server-says-she-was-fired-after-diners-left-4400-tip\/\" rel=\"noopener\">another local news station Fox59<\/a>. \u201cMost of them were turned off because of the pandemic but they\u2019re turning back on in January and that\u2019s a harsh reality,\u201d said Brandt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant said in a lengthy statement to\u00a05NEWS that\u00a0\u201cthe server who was terminated was not let go because she chose to keep the tip money,\u201d and added that tip sharing is a common industry practice they follow as a company.
