No! They took him backstage, they broke his arms and hands so bad.\u00a0They fucking beat the shit out of him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chappelle was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.complex.com\/life\/man-charged-attacking-dave-chappelle-wannabe-rapper-song-named-song-after-comedian\" rel=\"noopener\">attacked Tuesday night<\/a> while performing at the \u201cNetflix Is a Joke\u201d festival at the Los Angeles\u00a0Hollywood Bowl. The suspect\u2014identified as 23-year-old Isaiah Lee\u2014was filmed running on\u00a0stage and tackling comedian, before he was apprehended by security. Cellphone footage showed the man being taken off stage, before celebrity attendees like Rock and Jamie\u00a0Foxx rushed to assist the <em>Half Baked<\/em> star.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnlike the Academy Awards, Jamie Foxx came running out on stage and helped Dave Chappelle,\u201d Stern continued. \u201cAt the Academy Awards, everyone came over and consoled Will Smith \u2014 because it was live television and Hollywood didn\u2019t know what to do about Will Smith.\u201d<\/p>\n<section class=\"suitcase-ad\" \/>\n<p>Smith made headlines earlier this year <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.complex.com\/pop-culture\/will-smith-chris-rock-oscars-feud-explainer\/\" rel=\"noopener\">after he slapped Rock<\/a> during the live telecast of the 94th\u00a0Academy Awards. The viral moment took place while Rock was presenting the award for Best Documentary, and made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith\u2019s shaved head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJada, I love you, \u2018<em>G.I. Jane 2<\/em>, can\u2019t wait to see it,\u201d Rock said told Smith\u2019s wife, who was diagnosed with alopecia years ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Moments after the joke, Smith walked onto the stage and slapped Rock across the face. He then returned to his seat in the audience and shouted, \u201cLeave my wife\u2019s name out of your fucking mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The incident has left fans and Hollywood figures torn. Some criticized Smith for resorting to violence over what they believed to be a relatively mild joke, while others praised him for standing up for his wife. Stern fell into the former category, and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.complex.com\/pop-culture\/howard-stern-will-smith-wouldnt-have-slapped-jason-momoa-over-jada-joke-chris-rock-made\" rel=\"noopener\">previously suggested<\/a> Smith wouldn\u2019t have reacted that way had the joke come from a larger man like Dwayne Johnson or Jason Momoa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cListen! You don\u2019t treat Will Smith any different than they did the Chappelle attacker,\u201d Stern said on Wednesday\u2019s episode.\u00a0\u201cThe audience at the Oscars gave Will Smith a standing ovation after the attack, that\u2019s the truth. It\u2019s on film, it\u2019s not fake news. They didn\u2019t break Will\u2019s hands, they shook them and it\u2019s wrong and they all should be ashamed of themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<section class=\"suitcase-ad\" \/>\n<p>Lee was taken into custody Tuesday night and charged with\u00a0felony assault with a deadly weapon. Los Angeles police say the suspect was armed with a fake gun that contained a knife blade.
