On Wednesday, Perry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.complex.com\/pop-culture\/ellen-ciara-mourn-stephen-twitch-boss\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">paid tribute to Stephen \u201ctWitch\u201d\u00a0Boss<\/a>, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve only met [Boss] a couple of times, and\u00a0he always full of life and seemed like such a light,\u201d Perry said in an Instagram video before detailing\u00a0times when\u00a0he was in a dark place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just wanted to take you back to a time in my life where I tried to commit suicide, a couple of times. Because it was so dark, I didn\u2019t think it would get any better,\u201d\u00a0Perry candidly shared. \u201cI had endured so much pain, so much abuse, sexual abuse. It was all so hard to just move through I thought the only way to make this better, this pain to go away, was\u00a0to\u00a0end\u00a0my life. Had any of those attempts happened, I would have missed the best part of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The famed director and filmmaker encouraged his followers that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and that he emerged\u00a0\u201cthe happiest I\u2019ve ever been.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Back in December 2020, Perry opened up about his 26-year-old nephew\u00a0Gavin Porter, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.complex.com\/pop-culture\/2020\/02\/tyler-perry-nephew-dead-after-hanging-himself-in-prison-family-suspects-foul-play\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">died in prison<\/a> while serving a 20-year sentence for killing his father. In the lengthy statement, the <em>Why Did I Get Married?\u00a0<\/em>star reflected on how the situation impacted his family.\u00a0<\/p>\n<section class=\"suitcase-ad\" \/>\n<p>\u201cA few years ago my nephew committed a heinous crime\u2014he shot his biological father and killed him just feet away from my sister over a senseless argument. The murder shook our entire family to its core,\u201d the statement read.\u00a0\u201cDespite his horrible act, before he went to prison I went to see him in the local jail. I assured him that we all still loved him, but it was important to all of us, including his mother, that he was punished for this horrific crime that he had committed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This came after Perry\u2019s family called for a second autopsy report on Porter. Per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2020\/02\/26\/tyler-perry-nephew-kills-himself-hanging-prison-family-suspicious\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TMZ<\/a>, Porter was reportedly in solitary confinement after getting into a fight with another inmate.
