{"id":58264,"date":"2021-04-28T22:41:59","date_gmt":"2021-04-28T22:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/freshestfm.com\/ghostface-killah-gives-his-take-on-newer-rap-artists\/"},"modified":"2021-04-28T22:42:09","modified_gmt":"2021-04-28T22:42:09","slug":"ghostface-killah-gives-his-take-on-newer-rap-artists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/freshestfm.com\/ghostface-killah-gives-his-take-on-newer-rap-artists\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghostface Killah Gives His Take on Newer Rap Artists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>During an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/article\/interview-ghostface-killah-wu-tang-clan-legacy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview with Vulture<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.complex.com\/tag\/ghostface-killah\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Ghostface Killah<\/a>\u00a0took a look back on his legendary career and gave his thoughts on new music.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Ironman <\/em>rapper said he doesn\u2019t \u201cdiscriminate \u201d when it comes to music and even appreciates tracks from \u201ca few young guys that\u2019s out there right now. \u201d He continued by talking about the disconnect between artists from different generations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople get it twisted, like, \u2018Oh, this new rap generation is garbage.\u2019\u00a0But you know what? You gotta have the ear to understand what\u2019s going on,\u201d Ghostface said.\u00a0\u201cSome of them really got talent. You might not be able to understand that talent because that\u2019s not the era you come from, but being an artist, you gotta be willing to listen to everything.\u00a0It took me a while to start to understand these kids and their sound.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although Ghostface said he does like some of the music coming from newer artists, there are some acts that he thinks \u201csound the same.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not saying everybody\u2019s like that, though, because [some of it does] all sound the same,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cBut those little guys, they sound the same because they\u2019re not thinking of new shit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ghostface also talked about\u00a0younger acts not fully immersing themselves in hip-hop\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<section class=\"suitcase-ad\"\/>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m all for these young Black kids getting money and doing what they do, but musically, I think that becoming a rapper now, you should\u00a0know the history, know now who the Spoonie Gees and\u00a0Sugarhill Gangs\u00a0was, the Wu-Tangs and the Biggies, all that. Grand Puba, all these guys. You need to know these people,\u201d he said. \u201cYou gotta add to that. We got bodies of work. Mobb Deep, Nas, Wu-Tang, Jay-Z, we got bodies of work. These days, you might hear one record and don\u2019t even care about the rest of the album.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ghostface knows a thing or two about establishing his own lane. He told Vulture\u00a0that a lot of his fan-favorite songs from his classic album, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.complex.com\/music\/2012\/02\/end-of-discussion-sean-price-says-ghostface-killahs-supreme-clientele-is-better-than-ironman\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Supreme Clientele<\/em><\/a>, aren\u2019t about anything. Instead, he was just pairing words and rhyme schemes together that he thought sounded good in his head.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was rhyming on \u2018Nutmeg\u2019 and \u2018One\u2019 on\u00a0<em>Supreme Clientele<\/em>, I made a style that I couldn\u2019t even tell what it was. I just wanted to use some words that sounded good with each other and everybody\u2019s trying to decipher what I mean when, really, I don\u2019t even know what it means because I had no beat,\u201d he explained. \u201cBut something said, \u2018Make a record. Write a verse real quick just putting words together, whether they mean something or not.
