Yak Gotti’s Mother Arrested After Allegedly Sneaking Rolling Papers

Written by on January 19, 2023

Yak Gotti’s mother Latasha Kendrick was arrested this week after she attempted to sneak rolling papers into the Fulton County courtroom, WSB-TV reports.

Kendrick, 51, was booked into the Fulton County Jail after she allegedly smuggled papers and tobacco products into the courtroom where her son is standing trial, and was charged with one count of criminal attempt to commit a misdemeanor. Her son is one of the 14 defendants in the sweeping RICO indictment, which also includes Young Thug and other Young Stoner Life Records artists. Gotti has been hit with a number of charges, including the murder of Donovan “Nut” Thomas Jr. in 2015.

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, Kendrick dropped off a bag of clothes for her son as he was in court, which authorities were told included a sealed envelope. According to Gotti’s attorney Douglas Weinstein, a deputy was informed about the envelope by Nyesha Cox, the mother of the rapper’s child. The bag of clothes was searched, and the envelope was discovered to contain wrapping papers and other tobacco products. She denied any knowledge of the envelope, and said the bag was packed by Cox. She was arrested shortly after, and an arrest warrant has been issued for Cox.

Yak Gotti, born Deamonte Kendrick, was charged alongside Martinez Arnold, a.k.a. YSL Duke, in connection with the 2015 fatal shooting of Donovan Thomas. The pair were allegedly caught traveling to a rival gang territory armed with an AK-47 assault rifle and a .40 caliber handgun. Gotti was hit with accusations he “snitched” on his fellow YSL member Duke after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit to murder.
