A fan-supported endgame theory for Penn Badgley and Cardi B’s ongoing mutual admiration was brought to the Jimmy Kimmel Live! studio on Monday night.
As you’ll recall, Cardi joked earlier this month that she was now “famous famous” due to the You star having shouted her out in an interview. Cardi made the comment when sharing a clip of the actor praising her approach to social media and commending the “authentic relationship” she has with fans. From there, the two continued the back-and-forth by changing their respective profile pictures to photos of each other.
Speaking with Kimmel, who referred to the “Up” artist as “Cardi Badgley,” the Gossip Girl alum pointed to all of this as simply “a thing that we have now.” Of course, he was also asked about Cardi’s tweeted interactions with Netflix, which have further spurred fans’ calls for some sort of guest part in a future You season.
“Well, I don’t know,” Badgley said. “I mean, I definitely can’t say. But there is actually—I believe this is true—there’s an actual Change.org petition. Changing the world, you know.”
At the time of this writing, such a petition did indeed exist.
When Kimmel pressed Badgley about this, he again clarified that he actually has no knowledge of any developments on that front. “I can’t say because I don’t know,” he said. “I actually don’t know. I’m not being coy.”
The latest season of You hit Netflix on Oct. 15. A fourth season has already been confirmed.
