Young M.A on Lil Nas X Coming Out: ‘I Think Maybe He Did It in a Smart Way’

Earlier this summer, Lil Nas X took to Twitter and posted a somewhat cryptic message in which he seemingly came out. Young M.A touched on this during an interview with Hollywood Unlocked.
“Honestly, to me, I ain’t really know if he came out because the way he went about it… like, ‘Is he gay?'” Young M.A said around the conversation’s 16-minute mark. “I wasn’t clear. But, in a way, I think maybe he did it in a smart way where it left you clueless… But to me, I think he is.”
When Young M.A first grabbed the music world’s attention, many assumed that she was lesbian. She then went on to have public relationships with several women without feeling the need to come out or define her sexuality. But when host Jason Lee labeled her as such at the beginning of the interview, she was quick to refute the title. “[I’m not a lesbian] I’m just Young M.A,” the rapper explained. “I’m just Young M.A… I just don’t date dudes. I love women.”
Earlier this year, Kodak Black brought up Young M.A on his track “Pimpin’ Ain’t Eazy.” On the song Black rapped, “I go Young M.A. on these dumb bitches. Like a dyke man, you n***as can’t fuck with me.” Kodak also said, “I’m fuckin’ Young M.A., long as she got a coochie.” M.A told Hollywood Unlocked that she initially wasn’t that offended but eventually decided to address trolls. “And y’all keep talking about this Kodak situation. Y’all n****s is weird, bro,” she said at the time. “And it be n****s on that sh*t. What’s wrong with y’all? Is y’all n****s alright? Come on, bro. Like obviously the n***a’s weird…”
“Just because of my response is why it’s viral,” Young M.A said around 6 minutes into the Hollywood Unlocked video. “I said something about the people in my comments that kept talking about it. That’s who I was talking to.”
