Young Thug’s Sister Breaks Down the Meaning Behind Thug’s Acronym

Young Thug’s stage name is pretty self-explanatory, right? Well, not according to his sister.
On Tuesday, HiDoraah took to social media to reveal the true meaning behind Thugger’s rap alias. While many fans assumed the name was a reference to the artist’s alleged gang ties, his sister claimed “Thug” was an acronym inspired by his modest and spiritual side.
“THUG = TRULY. HUMBLE, UNDER. GOD. YOUNG TRULY HUMBLE UNDER GOD. YOUNG-THUG,” she tweeted.
Shortly after, HiDoraah reshared her explanation on Instagram, writing: “For those who never knew why he named himself that for his stage name.”
The posts came as Thug awaits trial on gang-related charges. The 31-year-old was arrested back in May, after he and dozens of YSL associates were accused of conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Thugger—legal name Jeffery Lamar Williams—has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Some of his co-defendants, including 29-year-old rapper Gunna, were recently released from jail after entering Alford plea deals. Many suspected Gunna had secured the release by agreeing to cooperate with authorities; however, the rapper insists he was no snitch and had no intentions of testifying against any parties in the trial.
Gunna’s other sister, Dolly White, responded to the snitching claims on social media last week.
“Can y’all please stop saying that people ratted, and people this-and-that?” White said. “It’s not making anybody better, it’s not making nothing good, bro. Nothing that’s going on is…helping my brother. So can y’all please stop that? Can y’all please stop? If y’all love Gunna, then y’all give him support. Like, what the fuck y’all over there doing? Y’all tripping.”
