YoungBoy Never Broke Again Snags First Billboard No. 1 Album With ‘AI Youngboy 2’

YoungBoy Never Broke Again finished atop the Billboard 200 with his latest album AI Youngboy 2 in its debut week. The follow-up to the 2017 mixtape AI YoungBoy earned 110,000 equivalent album units with just 3,000 coming from traditional album sales.
Despite having 12 projects appear on the Billboard 200—eight appeared last year alone—AI YoungBoy 2 is only the second album to finish in the top 10. Until Death Call My Name peaked at No. 7.
AI YoungBoy 2 comes a little more than two months after the rapper was released from jail, where he served 90 days behind bars. Prosecutors successfully pushed for the rapper to be punished for multiple probation violations, which stem from a shooting in Miami Beach earlier this year, where one bystander was killed and his girlfriend sustained a shoulder wound.
“I wish they would have gotten me, not him,” a remorseful YoungBoy said through his lawyer. It is believed that the incident was part of an assassination attempt on the rapper’s life. YoungBoy and his record label reportedly attempted to reach out to the victim to help cover his funeral costs.
YoungBoy subtly touched on his ongoing legal issues and the media that covers his every move on the cover for his latest album, in which he’s seen sitting in front of a number of reporters who have their microphones positioned right under him.
Despite leapfrogging over Summer Walker’s Over It to assume second this week, the 99,000 equivalent album units moved by Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding wasn’t enough to retake the No. 1 spot.
