YouTube, SnapChat and Google Services Suffer Outages

YouTube, Discord and Gmail all experienced outages today, due to apparent problems with Google’s Cloud service. The disruption effected not only Google‘s own properties in the G Suite (Drive, Gmail, Hangouts and other applications) but also took down prominent websites that run on the Cloud service on the backend, like Snapchat and Vimeo.
The Verge reports that the outages were largely on the East Coast of the United States, with some users in Europe reporting that YouTube and Gmail were down.
A look at Google’s status dashboard features reports from Google for the last several hours, repeatedly telling users that it’s working on the issues.
“Our team is continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by 6/2/19, 6:00 PM with more information about this problem. Thank you for your patience,” reads the most recent update. “We continue to experience high levels of network congestion in the eastern USA, affecting multiple services in Google Cloud, G Suite and YouTube. Users may see slow performance or intermittent errors. Our engineering teams have completed the first phase of their mitigation work and are currently implementing the second phase, after which we expect to return to normal service.”
The outage has left people on the internet with an unexpected amount of time on their hands.
