Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is headed to the metaverse.
After announcing the new name of Facebook’s corporate entity, company founder Mark Zuckerberg shared a few details about the virtual reality projects now in development. Zuckerberg confirmed the 2004 Rockstar Games classic would be updated for the Oculus Quest 2 system, but provided no information on what fans could expect.
“This new version of, what I think is one of the greatest games ever made, will offer players an entirely new way to experience this iconic open-world in virtual reality,” he said during the Facebook Connect keynote event earlier this week.
A blog post on the Oculus website confirmed Zuckerberg’s announcement, stating the GTA project “was many years in the making, and we can’t wait to show you more of it.” The post didn’t elaborate on how San Andreas will be enhanced, though some gamers speculate it may provide a first-player perspective or be updated with motion controls.
Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
Earlier this month, Rockstar Games announced its Grand Theft Auto Trilogy collection, which will deliver remastered versions of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas. The bundle will launch on Nov. 11 and be played on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
