Look… the longer Choosin’ Texas stays at #1, the less it occurs to me like this song is dominating the zeitgeist in all channels, and the more it occurs to me that literally nothing is strong in the cultural landscape of pop right now, to the point where this old song is still at #1. Like, imagine if Shape Of You stayed #1 in the summer of Believer and There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back. People were already sick of it then, even though that song was the monster hit we know of today. And I’m sorry, Choosin’ Texas just does not have that same factor, not even a little bit. Like sure, it was popular in the winter season but now??? Definitely not.
At least Janice STFU is out of the top 10. Thank God.
According to Talk Of The Charts, #1 and #2 are currently separated by 90 points, while #3 and #10 are separated by just 15 points. Sure, there'll probably have a lot of movement in the weeks ahead which is good, but I really hope something new can dethrone ‘Choosin’ Texas’ by the end of the summer.
‘Boston’ is just okay in my opinion, but at least we finally have a new song here and ‘Janice STFU’ is gone as a result. This also means that every song in the Top 9 is either from or features a female artist. Women are doing remarkably well on the charts this year.
Good to see ‘Hate That I Made You Love Me’ back up a couple of places into the Top 5! Definitely a promising sign for the rest of Ariana’s album next Friday. Other than that, ‘Dracula’ is still gaining in overall performance, so hopefully it can reach a new peak soon.
